Old Science Hall

wayfinding, signage

If there’s one thing the University of Oklahoma’s Old Science Hall didn’t have, it was direction. The historic building houses four of the University’s major departments, including International Student Services, yet lacked any informational signage or other wayfinding. The interior also needed a new identity system to catch viewer’s attention while providing them with necessary location information.

Solution

In order to better contrast the dynamic history and traditional architecture of the building, the new wayfinding system was kept modern and geometric. Each floor directory was constructed with 3-dimensional elements in order to better mimic the building’s exterior and create a more cohesive feel. A unique color-coded system was also developed to identify specific areas and departments within the building.

Overall, the 3-story building received all new signage and directories, specifically designed for each floor, plus a freshly revised international icon series to accommodate all visitors. With functional and cohesive environmental designs, the Old Science Hall can now effectively serve its many purposes on campus.
